Windows Explorer stopping
Windows explorer stops with great frequency. Windows found a solution. It tells me to click start, then click accesories and then right click command prompt (and then goes on to tell me what to do). The problem is after I click accesories, there is NOTHING which says command prompt. What could I possibly be doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Mike

Don't know why command prompt is not in accessories, but you can click start and search command prompt which will bring it up, right click command prompt and run as adminstrator, then go from there with the rest of the instructions to fix theexplorer has stopped working.

Too bad he didn't post the solution! LOL
Easy way to command prompt is type "cmd" in search window or Win+R for the run command then cmd or cmd.exein there.ASUS P5Q PRO

My command prompt isn't there either but RUN is and you can type command there. you have to run as administrator then this reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /fand enter. The last post just before me (jrjr2u)has it step by step just didn't tell you where to find command. Thanks for the info though as I had lost the instructions. chamblisstom@bellsouth.net

@Silentuser are you running 32 or 64 bit Windows7, as i had a problem a while ago which was the same as you described, eventually i tracked the culprits down to being Palms hotsync manager for my Treo 650, conflicting with Sony Ericcsons phone software for a K750i. However , before that i had noticed i had i think it was 4 different copies of Visual c++ in uninstall programs. 2x 2005 and 2 x 2008 i uninstalled both the 32 bit versions and the 64 bit 2005 and the Explorer not responding dropped in frequency to the point that i thought that had fixed it, it went from about once every 30 seconds to about once every 6 hours. so it might be worth looking to see if you have multiple versions of visual c++ installed, and if so at least remove the older version numbers first to see if that has any effect.I'm using 64 bit Windows 7

I'm using 32 bit winodws. no palm hotsync. things are a lot better since i turned off thumbnails. Think MS was trying to be "smart" and it causes problems.

I had a similar problem. Mine was cause from installing a virtual CD program (virtualCD9.3). I suspect anything that alters a basic shell operation or plays with low level system information could lead to this sort of instability. Go through the software you have installed (or force feed) and see if any likely culprits present themselves, uninstall them one at a time till the issue goes away.
