Windows Explorer not responding?
I had this issue for a while now, it started out as just on Windows Vista, it came preinstalled on my computer and now I've upgraded to 7, it persists. A lot of people have had this issue search online Forums, but there's never been an answer.I would greatly appreciate it, if I got an answer. Thanks,Jordan

Hi Jordan123,It's not going to be that simple - this is the equivalent of 'my car makes a noise' - could be a lot of stuff, and only one of the 100,000 answers will be yours. :) With a pre-installed computer, the odds of this issue being caused by 3rd party software is highly likely though. One place you can start is by using the System Configuration tool to selectively turn off all 3rd party software. It is called MSCONFIG. Here are some steops for using it (even though they are for Vista, it's the same info). How to use the System Configuration utility to troubleshoot configuration errors in Windows Vista -http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/950093I'd start there.Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Hey Ned,I took your advice and disabled all 3rd Party software, and it rebooted.Unfortunately the same error message Windows Explorer has stopped working comes up, it's a really obscure error, and its been doing it for a while now.If you need any more info, just ask.

Do you see any details about the problem inControl Panel\System and Security\Action Center\Reliability Monitor that you can post here?Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Hi Jordan123In the System Tray down by the clock there is an icon of a flag. This is the Action Center. Open the Action Center. Are there any items or problems with possible solutions listed there?Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Well, first, there is nothing at all in the Action Center it seems fine.Sencondly I got onto the Reliability Monitor by using the search bar, luckily that worked, but it would have crashed Windows Explorer if I accessed it directly through Control Panel.I got the report details, on the main page there's 18 Critical Errors, where Windows Explorer failed, and I went into details and it came up with this :DescriptionFaulting Application Path: C:\Windows\explorer.exeProblem signatureProblem Event Name: APPCRASHApplication Name: Explorer.EXEApplication Version: 6.1.7000.0Application Timestamp: 49431f06Fault Module Name: StackHash_0ee3Fault Module Version: 6.1.7000.0Fault Module Timestamp: 49433e67Exception Code: c0000374Exception Offset: 000c0853OS Version: 6.1.7000.2.0.0.256.1Locale ID: 2057Additional Information 1: 0ee3Additional Information 2: eea4e5fa5e6763f53a185ce2750e2bdbAdditional Information 3: 1fcbAdditional Information 4: 998104772102c6b8ef447e1cd9ac2d73I tried to check for solution and it failed saying no new solutions found.

I agree with Ned Pyle [MSFT]. You should try troubleshooting with the System Configuration utility. Try a clean boot first then work from there adding things back in one at a time. It's probably something running in the background that adds a right click option in Explorer.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience
