Windows Explorer closes after inactivity
I have searched, and have been unable to find relevant information, so here's my scenerio. I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I have a Windows Explorer pineed to my task bar. I will use it to browse to a file, let's say a word document. I will take time to read and work on the word document. After some time, my Windows Explorer will automatically close. If I want to browse back to the file location, I have to open Windows Explorer again and browse all the way back to my original location. This is quite annoying. I can't understand why the window keeps closing.I have searched various forums here and on the web and have only found issues related to crashes and viruses or internet explorer, not windows explorer file browser. As far as I can tell, I don't see any malicious behavior. Please excuse me if this has been answered, but I am had much trouble narrowing my search results, so I decided to post a new question.

Hi,Does this issue occur to other application which you use Windows Explorer to browse? Only occurs to Word? If so, pin the word document to taskbar directly. When did this issue first occur? After installing any software or hardware? To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest test the issue in clean boot in case it is interfered by certain third party software running background. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135===============1. Click the Start Button and type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search Box and press Enter.2. Click Continue to verify the permission.3. Select the Services tab in the open window. Check the “Hide all Microsoft Services” option and click Disable All.4. Switch to the Startup tab and click Disable All.5. Click OK to save the settings and select Restart when prompted.6. Check whether or not the issue still occurs. Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't adversely affect the system or other programs. We can still manually run these programs later.

i think i found the culprit. I am using TrueCrypt to store encrypted data on a usb flash drive. i had TrueCrypt set to auto-dismount after x minutes. while the drive would not actually dismount since i had open files, it would get far enough in the process as to close my windows explorer window, since i had browsed to files on that drive. this is the same behavior experienced if you have a windows explorer open to a normal flash drive, then pull the drive out of the pc, your window disappears as the drive no longer exists. do you guys have any experience in something like this or suggestions? this is my home pc, so workaround for now is to disable auto-dismount. i'll search truecrypt forums to see if any one else has a similar experience.
