Windows Explorer Settings and Configuring Questions.
Hello Windows 7 Forum, I have 3 questions regarding the configuration, or the ability to set or configure certain things Windows Explorer. 1). When opening a folder by either double clicking, or selecting it then pressing enter, in the left section of Windows Explorer, where the Tree View structure is, the folder always scrolls to the bottom of the window where the status bar is. No show stopper, I end up using the right side List View folders, things stay where they are in this view. But this happens in the Common Dialogs; Open, Save, Save As, and especially Browse For Folder, that's when it becomes, well I wouldn't say annoying, but a would be great if I knew what to do to stop it. Any registry adjustments to stop this? 2). I Have a two (separate) disc setup. C:\ for System and Application (~80GB), and D:\ For Page File, User Data Files, and Temp Files (~500GB). After installing Windows, I moved my user Folders from C: to D: and Subfolders as such; C: D: - Users - Users -- MyUserName -- MyUserName --- Contacts --- Contacts --- Desktop --- Desktop --- Downloads --- Downloads --- Favorites --- Favorites --- Links --- Links --- My Documents --- My Documents --- My Music --- My Music --- My Picutres --- My Picutres --- My Videos --- My Videos --- Saved Games --- Saved Games --- Searches --- Searches Since then, I have created some new folders in my D:\Users\MyUserName like, Mail, Projects. Here's the Windows Explorer part. In the left Tree View the very top, there is the following: Favorites Desktop - Libraries - MyUserName Under my user name, are the folders that are in the C: list above, but they are all on the D: Disc, Great! It's what I wanted. The additional folders I added, Mail and Projects, do not appear in MyUserName (beneath the Libraries folder), in Windows Explorer, I expand my D: disc to get to them. How do I make them also appear in the MyUserName Folder, in Windows Explorer? Again no show stopper, just an intricate convenience. 3). Creating a New Folder. When creating a new folder in the right side of Windows Explorer, the Folder List View side, the New Folder will initially appear as the last item, sometimes last amongst many folders and may more files, no sooner than I start to type the name of my New Folder, VOOM!, it's like someone pulled a rug from under me, literally. By the time I find it (like after two seconds), the folder's lost focus, and renaming is done without bother. Anyway to stop this VOOM! part happening? Thanks and regards, - BotRot Window 7 Ultimate 32Bit (and loving it!)

Hi BotRot, Regarding the first and third issue, please access Clean Boot to check the issue. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue. If the issue persists in Clean Boot, please use ShellExView to disable third party extension of Windows Explorer by the steps below: 1. Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. 2. Right-click the "shexview.zip" file, select "Extract All", the Extraction Wizard will prompt. 3. Click Next, input "C:\ShellExView" (without the quotation marks) in the "Files will be extracted to this directory" textbox. 4. Click Next and click Finnish. 5. Open the "C:\ShellExView" folder and double-click the "shexview.exe" file. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions. 6. Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard. 7. Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes. 8. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved. Also, you can create a new user account to test the result. Regarding the second issue, could you please let us know how you moved the user folders to D: drive? Could you please provide the steps? Hello Linda, Thank you so much for your response and suggestions, I shall try them accordingly. Regarding my second question, I copied C:\Users\MyUserName and the subfolders mentioned in my question, to my D:\ disc. So I then had D:\Users\MyUserName and the mentioned subfolders. I right clicked each of the subfolders on the C:\ disc, and changed their location to the corresponding D:\ subfolder using the, 'Move...' function in the Location tab (of the Property window). I hope this helps. Thanks again for responding. Kind regards, - BotRot
