Windows Error Reporting
Other than editing the registry is there a way to reduce the number of retained reports in Windows 7? TIA Hope this helps, Gerry

Is there a specific reason as to why this needs to change?

Hello Gerry. Windows Error Reporting settings can be configured using Group Policy too: read the article at http://sourcedaddy.com/windows-7/configuring-wer-using-group-policy.html. Bye.Luigi Bruno

I am using the Windows Error Reporting section of the System Information file to troubleshoot BSOD errors. Another contributor commented on a 29 mb download by someone I was trying to help. It was readily apparent that the size of the download was directly proportionate to the number of recorded events. Records of events over 18 months ago are not helpful. My curiousity aroused I started looking for a simple solution. I like challenges!Hope this helps, Gerry

Thanks Luigi you have pointed me to the answer. For the benefit of others with the same question I am setting out below the complete answer as I see it. Your link does not explain how to access Computer Configuration. This link does that: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3652-local-group-policy-editor-open.html You can access by typing Group Policy in the Search Box above the Start Button, selecting Edit Group Policy and pressing the ENTER key. The route is then Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Advanced Error Reporting Settings, Configure Report Archive. There you can specify the number of reports to be retained. Only certain versions of Windows are provided with access to the Group Policy Editors. For Windows 7 these are Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions. Hope this helps, Gerry
