Windows Easy File Transfer
Upgraded to 7 from XP. Made folder on local server and used Easy File Transfer to save my stuff. After loading 7 I started Easy File Transfer to get my stuff back, but it won't see the files. I can see the files there with explorer. Easy File Transfer made a folder called USMT2.UNC. It has .dat files in it, bit Easy File Transfer won't open it.

Hi Hearseville,It sounds like you used the old File and Settings Transfer Wizard to backup your data files. This utility only supports backing up files to a Windows XP system. Please visit the following link for the instructions on using the Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 7. Step by Step Windows 7 Upgrade from Windows XPHope it helps.

Hi all, Microsoft has developed an internal tool to extract the .mig file(MigRecover.exe). You can contact Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) to obtain it. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request, please refer to the website listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS If you are outside the US, please refer to http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers. Hope it helps.

Do I still have to call tech support to get this tool? I used WET to send my XP files and settings to a portable hard drive. Next, I installed Windows 7 on a new computer that was running Vista. I used easy transfer to try and load my files and settings on the new computer. It said that WET could not open the WET file! I turmed off my Norton and tried again. Same thing happened. I installed all of my programs and updated them them for W7 and tried again. Same thing! It looks like the same thing has been going on for a long time. Olease help me fix. There must be a solution by now?
