something has been keeping my hp pavillion 2006 laptop with vista basic from checking for windows updates. when i ran a diagnostic on windows defender, it gave me error code 0x80244019. I've tried to install updates manually, with sites such ashttp://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=85914&clcid=0x409but when i click the links that should pop open a box with the option to "run" or "save", absolutely nothing happens- no box opens, no webpage opens... if i type in the url in a new window of firefox or IE, the window stays blank, as though i did not even type in a url. Hi Krystal, you can try the following link to download and install Windows Defender definition: http://download.microsoft.com/download/DefinitionUpdates/mpas-fe.exe If this still does not work in your browser, you can also use third party download tool to download it.
