Windows Defender and Forefront Client Security clash
Hi, Windows Vista Ultimate updated to Windows 7. Windows Defender is reactivated and started despite Forefront Client Security (FCS) being active on system. This causes both systems to run simultaneously, and FCS and Defender being listed as "OFF" in System and Security\Actions Center. Turning FCS On does not stick, so it will forever be listed in Actions Center as Off. It seems this confusion is also causing problems for WSUS, as automatic signature downloads no longer work - only manual updates will install download and install updates from WSUS-server. Please advise. Morten Ross

Until such time that Forefront client security is certified for Win7 I would advise to try app compat settings or another antivirus product. It typically is a bit dicey to be picking a/vs on betas, so you may need to experiment a bit.

Ya ForeFront is not currently supported on W7. De-install it and use one of the supported betas, like Kaspersky.

Removing and reinstalling Forefront, then picking up the latest sig updates via Windows Update fixed Forefront for me. I have Defender disabled I think. I'll check and see what the proper procedure is for that. Keith Combs - Microsoft US IT Pro Evangelist - http://blogs.technet.com/keithcombs

Hi Keith,Does this mean that a remove and reinstall will enlist FCS as ON in Actions Center, or not list FCS there at all, and that the FCS GUI is loaded when you log in?As for the WSUS - it appears the W7 for some reason is delaying the update process. I haven't cunted how long a delay, but it's shorter that the next WSUS download from Microsoft, so it receives all updates.Morten Ross
