Windows Defender Software Explorer missing...now what?
Folks,Where is the Software Explorer that used to be in Windows Defender? How do we edit startup items without this nifty tool?Or are we back to START, RUN, MSCONFIG?If so, this is a big step back IMHO.

Hello, The Software Explorer feature of Windows Defender is not available in Windows 7 Beta and you could disable the startup items in msconfig settings. However it is still not the final version, some features might be add or deleted from the beta product; I would help you to send the feedback to the relative department and you'd better wait for another period of time until the retail version OS is released. Thanks for your time and suggestion!

Hmm, this is what I said in my original post. We are going backwards if it means using msconfig to edit startup items. I do outside support and use the software explorer all the time to edit out dopey installs and startup items on customers' machine who call me in because it is "running slowly". I sent in a feedback, but let's see if anyone is listening. In fact,OEM installs of all the trial/crapware is the first thing I delete out of the startup items. Gib

Software Explorer is not available in the version that runs under Windows 7. You have to use Autoruns. Here is the Microsoft article. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-happened-to-Software-Explorer-in-Windows-Defender
