I too am seeing the same issue. Only a few known changes to my system recently, some MS updates and installed MS Virtual Server. Thinking it may have something to do with VS.

I hope so, because I really don't like the idea to have applications adding "credentials" there without my acknowledge. That might lead in other security issues.Regards.If it was helpful, please vote! Maybe this comes from Windows Live as PRCMAC's reply. On Windows XP native mode there is samefunction/feature forshared directory access, remote desktop and etc, but no explicit manager for it.In my opinionit is agood and convenient feature for outgoing access.

Hi all, It seems like this mystery has been the "thorn in the lion's paw", so to speak, for a long time. Well, I don't have the solution, but I have more data that can help the experts narrow down the list of possible "culprits" even further. First, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a brand new Gateway FX6831-1 desktop that was manufactured 01/10. Windows 7 came preinstalled. I did not use any type of transfer programs when upgrading to the new Desktop (i.e. it's not something related to Windows XP). This is the unknown entry that I have in my Credential Manager as well as all software installed on my system: Generic Credentials virtualapp/didlogical Modified: 4/10/2010 Internet or network address: virtualapp/didlogical User name: 02xxxxxxxxxx Password: XXXXXXXX Persistence: Local Machine ALL INSTALLED SOFTWARE 2007 Microsoft Office system Version 12.0.6524.5003 ABBYY (BIT Software) - Does this additional data help anyone get any closer to the solution? I am very uncomfortable with this entry and the only reason why I haven't tried to delete it is that there are many others out there with the exact same entry. This leads me to believe that it serves a legitimate purpose, but what that purpose happens to be, is the $1,000,000 question! I really appreciate all the help that any of you "computer gurus" can possibly give me, even if your response is just speculation. Together, all of the speculation, may just add up to the answer. Thanks All!

hello there in regards to your quary here is what i believe you got the user name and address on your computer and showing up in "credential manager", i had the same experience today a few months i was setting up MS Win7 on my pc but i could not get my pc linkup wireless with the modem\router for the internet in another room in my home so called AT&T tech support to help out. they statred outthe typical way acording to the BOOK well no luck so the next step was to have me to agree to let them access and controll my pc, so in order for tech support to do this they have to use a program to do this, they have to use a user name: and a password: to access. so the username and password. here is the user name and it's password that i found on my pc in Credentials manager; user name: 02AYDTGHQQAO Internet or network address: VIRTUALAPP/DIDLOGICAL ,,,,,,,; ((((((( note: see the letters "didlogical' above as part of internet or network address, well thats how i figured out what happened and how this address got on my pc, it was tech supports activities when they was helping me. I would certainlly delete this input you never know how ethical this tech person is, if they wanted to come back to your computer they can do it they left an open door for them to do so, yes? if i ever need tech support again i make sure and request them to remove all tracks of them coming in to my network, yes??????)))))))) I hope this helps you and others i did not read any of the responses you recieved regarding this issue if you got help., great, now you habve someone else who figured the issue out maybe in a little differant way, yeah :) my email is: starlinku2@bellsouth.net

jdevesa, it is a keylogger...credit card smuggler...identity thief! Dump it ASAP, and check back in your Credentials' often for it. Also dump Norton and/or Windows Security Essentials if you are running either, and switch to a more realible Anti-Virus program. I used to be a Microsoft girl from way back, and between Win 7 and the "new and improved IE 8", I now use Mozilla Firefox and Kaspersky Anti-Virus and have had no further problems (Knock On Wood!). A Kaspersky scan is running right now, and has discovered 14 formerly undetected and unwanted Riskware programs I didn't realize were on my machine. I have a couple of million files, so the scan is still running at 9:15 PM on the 25th, but am not happy to report that I am up to 18 unwanted programs now.

Nope Bob, never did use the wizard. Most of mine where manual off of CD's, so must have been net downloaded based. Also, you can type "CRED" in your 'search programs and files box' on your start menu, and Credential Manager is an immediate option for a direct linkup. A lot faster when in your current state of paranoia like I am, you are checking it several times each day for intruders! Nobody is gonna get my Birthday Gift Card Info!!!!!!!!!! -Retired and Disabled, living on Social Security...thank goodness I pay my bills with paper. Not very good for the environment, but a heck of a lot safer than handing over the keys to the kingdom of your Credit and/or Debit Card! Sounds like a hassle, but I do purchase Gift Cards in the amount I roughly plan to spend on the net...cuts way down your potential for loss.

Bingo to Silverlight and NVIDIA Drivers. Wow, you two are good, I forgot completely about the driver update. Sounds more likely to me than my suspected culprits of Ebay and/or Amazon. The driver download was just about in the right time slot also.

There is nothing legitimate about a hacker!!! I watched the SOB try to open up my system info one night when I could not sleep and was up and reading on the puter at 4 AM; three times in a row I closed the program only to watch it open again. That is when I checked my credentials for trouble. That took about a minute to find! Personally, I feel as violated as having an actual home invader. This was Genie's New Toy once. I only got it in mid-March as an early Birthday Gift from my son. See some of my other posts here, and on other like forums about this same topic. I am not a happy, carefree camper anymore. You can contact me much faster on facebook if you have a page there... Genie Wagner. (Now after all this, my daughter gives me weekly lectures on identity theft on facebook! And I will be darned if I am going to stop my posts THERE on animal cruelty, child charities, etc.) (And Google's search engine has started quoting me in various listings. So much for flying under the radar anymore!)

Especially when they also have their own password, of which I have not been made aware of. More information on this topic can be found on a site entitled: Microsoft Answers

I have read over all the posting and it is not a keylogger. I read jjBme reply and it just needed to be tested to confirm it, so I did. I did some testing on a machine that did not have this credential and without ever using Windows Live Essentials on it (however a later version came with the machine installed). I updated and loaded the new Windows Live Essentials 2011 pack. After loading was complete the virtualapp/didlogical did not show up. However, after I launched Windows Live Messager and the program started configuring and I logged into my account, it showed up immediatly before my eye as I watch the credental manager. It is part of the Windows Live Essentals and very likely from Windows Live messager. Great job in finding the answer jjBme. Confirmed, KASWahoo

Hi, I concur, I installed Windows Live Essentials to use Windows Live Mail. I just upgraded to win7 and found out there was no email program, you have to use WLE. I haven’t used Windows Live Messenger yet so maybe it’s the logon to use any of the WLE products. Thanks for your time taken to figure it out. I am still poking around win7 and found this credential. I did a search and found this thread. Thanks again. Robra13

Funny how these things pop up again. So now I'm actually an employee myself and another went asking around, after someone brought this thread up on channel9. So, officially, it is indeed created by Windows Live, as part of their authentication process. It is not a key-logger or a virus or your banking credentials.

Despite the following entry "virtualapp" is a legit matter; my windows live ids were also listed in the "generic credential" without me entering the data itself (hotmail email account / password + other email accounts...). "YOU HAVE EDITED SOME OF THE REGISTRY KEYS" Could you kindly be more specific as to the edits performed in the registry, how you made them, the location of the registry (I know but others might not), and what the each edit accomplished? By doing so other users might have the same capabilities on their machines should they so desire?

I'm not so sure, and even if it is, there should be no one else able to access my computer without my knowledge. Even Windows Live. What I realized at some point was that a password reset disc had been created for my computer. I didn't remember doing that, in fact I remember I resisted doing that. At some point, the message that told me I needed to creat a password reset disc went away (under HP Advisor). I was suddenly having problems at times with my mouse not working at times. At other times, I was having slow response to the mouse. Then, I stumbled the other day on this 'credentials' thing. My 'cure' was to go in, create a new password reset disc using the alternative way of putting the password on a flash drive, and then wait and see what happened. Interestingly, as soon as I created the new passord reset on the flash drive, the message came back saying all other password reset disks are now inoperative and only my new password reset flash drive (usb) would work. All I care is that there have been no more un-allowed credentials showing up on my computer. Enough said.

Would you be able to provide any wisdom as to why it seems so cryptic? is it a last-minute kludge to be cleaned up later? It would seem the logical choice for a windows live credential to have "WindowsLive:(token):name=........" instead of "02skjgd&*%%$@!!!!!" as the username - the same as the other entries in the list... ??

Agreed. This just looks suspicious. Even if this is a legitimate, the name could not be worse. And still.... Windows has not provided a solid/final answer.

I used to run MS Essentials, then I noticed system was unstable and slow. I started looking under the hood. I found lots of keygen.dll.. Then in the user security priviliges a odd looking user was listed and all of the privileges were changed. Malware Bytes was next, a Trojan was found. I do all kinds of P2P lending,Plus access several online bank accounts every day not to mention normal charge card payments, etc. I got nervous when I saw that same virtual credential tonight. It must be time to wipe the drives out and reinstall!

i also have w7 rtm x32 with office 2010; also have virtualapp/didlogical issue and i'm running windows live. just for additional input. i notice this issue was first posted before w7 was officially released--jdevesa--were you running w7 prior to that time? any more input--anyone? thanks--this has been a very helpful dialogue. Hello, I was using 32bit on my CQ61212TU laptop then got a RTM copy with both 32bit & 64 bit.I installed the x64 bit version for good reasons then when I downloaded the MS Office trial it wasnt there,I noticed it first appearing when I downloaded IE9 PREVIEW then same day Virtual application to run my 32bit copy out there in Virtual Visual Arts & cloud somewhere this crediential showed up.I deleted it 6 times and it returns every day no system changes what so ever I now leave it there BTW I also list same exact applications except for Nvidia drivers So its a Virtual credential required to login when in use without us having to signin also I have read that windows live essentials has a credential similar to this? if I am wrong Please give me some more input maybe I am right regards jeffreyobrien jeffreyobrien2203@hotmail.com

Hello, I've read this post from start (08/2009) to finish (06/24/2011), as I have the same question. I am currently corresponding with a Microsoft security agent, and it is yet to be determined, the final result. My question, is "Why did 'Reckon-J.Devesa' and 'Nicholas Li, Moderator', drop out of the discussion?". As this is an important issue. And to me seems unresolved. RolloMayRolloMay
