What is the make and model of your motherboard? Which hard drive configuration do you have selected, AHCI, RAID, or IDE (legacy)? Knowing this information could assist us in finding a resolution to your problem.

Check in the Bios that the hard drive is being detected and reset motherboard to safe default settings. Also disconnect any other hard drives.
If the hard drive is detected in the Bios and not during the Windows install, you can format/partition the drive by performing the following:

Once in Windows setup, hit shift+F10 to bring up the Command line.
1.)  Type diskpart [enter]
2.)  Type list disk [enter]
3.)  Type select disk # (from step 2) [enter]
4.)  Type clean [enter]
5.)  Type create part primary [enter]
6.)  Type format fs=ntfs quick [enter]
7.)  Type select part 1 [enter]
8.)  Type assign letter=C: [enter]
9.)  Type exit [enter]
10.)  Type exit [enter]

This should provide an active drive C partition to install Windows 8/8.1

Just go to Bios and change the SATA controller to AHCI or you can try with the other which has.
