Windows CD/DVD boot behavior documented?
I'm looking for documentation on the normal boot behavior of a system with the system tried to boot from the Windows DVD. I understand that the the boot image on the CD will display the "press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." prompt based on checks of the HD and if the user does not press a key, the image will go ahead and hand control to the boot sector on the HD is there is one (and skip anything that may have been placed in the boot order in between the DVD and HD in the order such as a network boot). What I can't find is the information where this behavior is actually specified, where can I find such a document or article?

The boot behaviour is CD-specific. In other words it depends on the design of the CD's boot code. Some CDs will generate this prompt whereas others won't. I have some of each type.

Hi, The issue refers some knowledge about programming. You can try to find the help from MSDN forum. Thanks for your understanding.Spencer TechNet Community Support

Thanks Spencer, I'll ask there. Edit: Would you be able to suggest the correct forum? I'm not actually asking about developing anything. I'm simply looking for documentaiton with the critical thing being that the CD-ROM will then launch the hard disk drive. If I have set up a boot order in my BIOS of DVD->NIC->Hard Drive what I actually get is the system tries to boot the CD, givem me the boot prompt, times out, then boots to the hard drive skipping the NIC. I seem to recal an old document somewhere saying this is the expected behavior. Is is this sort of documentaiton/specification I am looking for, not any sort of programming help.
