Windows Boot Manager prohibits BIOS access
Hello everyone, since I've installed Windows 7 RC my fan speeds have been a little erratic so I wanted to go check out the settings in BIOS. When I reboot and the BIOS screen appears, I hit delete (as I always have when I had XP installed) but now it takes me to the Windows Boot Manager. Nothing is wrong with my keyboard because if I press nothing then Windows 7 immediately loads. Also, just to note, my BIOS has been recently flashed. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I tried pressing F1, then F2, and both brought up Windows Boot Manager. If I press a random key such as spacebar, nothing is activated and Windows 7 loads as normal. Anyone have any ideas? And sorry if this topic has already been discussed; I tried searching but didn't find anything related to it.

HiStrange behavior? You should see a screen that shows the key to press to get into Setup when system first starts to initialize. Other than that, I don't know where the problem might be coming from. You might want to check with the site where you downloaded the updated BIOS.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Stridulent -If you're getting a boot manager when you're booting, instead of the BIOS screen, you may be waiting too long to hit the DEL or other key. Some boards - like the one in my HP dv5000 laptop - have a very, very short window of opportunity to access the BIOS. The screen where it shows the Press F10 to enter BIOS shows up for all of maybe half a second. If I miss it, I have to shut down and try it again. At the point during the boot cycle where the computer is doing it's POST checks, it shouldn't be loading anything - boot managers or otherwise. Those items would be loaded immeditately after that.

I have the same problem. Abit IP35-Pro mobo, Award BIOS. I've never had any problem getting into the BIOS in the past, nor have I ever seen the Windows Boot Manager come up (I don't have multiple OS's installed). This weekend, I've been doing some maintenance - adding drives, resizing partitions, installing new software and hardware, and all of a sudden I can't access the BIOS; instead, if I hit the DEL key, up comes Windows Boot Manager. I hit DEL repeatedly and rapidly from the initial POST message until the Boot Manager comes up, but no luck.Is there a way to get rid of the boot manager entirely? It doesn't offer me any benefit, and certainly seems to be complicit in preventing access to the BIOS...

Isn't this usually a function key something lets say like... F1?or ESC? I have Award BIOS myself and use F1 to get in to setup. Look real close at the bottom of the screen and you will know which key to pound.

You're right about it sometimes being so fast it's hard to catch. It can be further complicated if you are using a usb keyboard, since the BIOS can take a second or so to recognize the keyboard.I have an Abit MB on which I disabled fastboot in the BIOS (once I got into it). Now it counts through all 8 GB of memory if I let it. The escape key cancels the memory test in this case.Boomaroo, if you are using a usb keyboard try plugging in a PS/2 one. Also, you can try holding down the end key as you turn on the machine from a full off (power removed). This should generate a keyboard error and a message such "Press delete to go into BIOS setup or press enter to continue".
