Windows Boot Loop

Hello,

I have an ASUS computer with Windows 8 that is stuck in Boot Looping. On power up , I get the "ASUS" logo, then the usual circular spinning symbol, and then it powers off and re-powers on, and so on.

I saw an article saying that by restarting 3 times via the Power off button, it should switch to Automatic Recovery Mode. I have tried forcing restart 3 times (and more) but the PC just stays in the same boot loop.

I do not have an external boot media to boot from.

Don't know what to do ...

Thanks for your help

Have you tried booting into safe mode with networking (usually F8)?  If you can get it booted we need the DMP files and the event viewer logs

We do need the actual log files (called a DMP files) as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here

If you have any questions about the procedure please ask

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:

Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post * If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The work around is to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do Press Win+"R" and input regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

the usual circular spinning symbol, and then it powers off and re-powers on, and so on.

How quickly?  Can you get into your machine's BIOS setup?

What machine are you posting from?  If it is W8.1 supposedly you could make a boot USB with it, switch the boot order in the BIOS and thus break the loop.  That would then allow you to change your BCD and try to make it do something else.

Hi Robert,

The cycle is about 5 to 10 seconds long. I don't know how to get to the machine's BIOS setup.

I am posting from another machine (non-windows).

Thanks

Francois

Hello Francois,

After log on the safe mode or just after 10 seconds you press the power button , the computer restarts automatically?

About Bios settings, please take a look at the following article.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/12911.tips-for-configuring-your-bios-settings-to-work-with-windows-to-go.aspx
Different manufacturers have different hotkeys, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer to confirm.

Please check if you can normally use Windows recovery image.
If the computer still reboot automatically, please contact the manufacturer to check the hardware issue.

If you can use Windows recovery image, please try to repair the startup.
