Windows Biometrics Crashes When Initilization is Attempted.
Has anyone else had an issue getting the Windows 7 biometrics service to work? My computer recognized my fingerprint scanner (Authen Tec AES2501A) and I downloaded the Windows 7 Driver for it from the Authen Tec site. When I open Biometrics it shows up as being available, but when I try to enroll my fingerprints to use it, TrueSuite.FPR crashes and it usualy takes Windows Explorer with it. Some times it lasts long enough that the Biometrics Control Panel can crash first, but then TrueSuite will crash.

Hi, From Internet I can only find Authen Tec Inc. AES2501A for Windows XP and Windows Vista systems. If the driver you download is not a Windows 7 beta driver, it would not be compatible. In this situation, I suggest that you try to run it in Windows Vista or Windows XP SP2 compatible mode. However, if the download is specially designed for Windows 7 beta, please let us know the location. Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi,I downloaded what was supposed to be a Windows 7 compatible driver. I got the link both form my Windows Action Center (As a solution to an issue with Windows being unable to find driver software for my fingerprint reader), as well as from a Windows blog about the new biometric services (http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/08/windows-7-puts-it-s-finger-on-enhanced-biometric-support.aspx). I downloaded it from...www.authentec.com/win7update/W7Wbf32.exeI don't exactly understand how to run the biometrics service in compatibility mode. Otzen

Dunno if this will help, but I had major problems with the fingerprint reader in my Lenovo x61 Tablet crashing. It turns out that there was a pre-requisite installation. In my case I had to installe the 5.6.2 version in order to get functionality out of the 5.8.2 version (but the 5.6.2 version worked just fine)- John

Be warned, I downloaded a previous version of my driver like recomended, and now TrueSuite.FPR no longer crashes; it can't because it is GONE. Now when I try to enroll my fingerprints it tells me that ..."This computer does not have a program that can be used to manage your fingerprint data with the fingerprint reader. To use the fingerprint reader, you need to get a program from you computer manufacturer (if the fingerprint reader is part of you computer) or the fingerprint reader manufacturer."I don't know what to do from here except reinstall Windows which I don't particulary want to do.____________________________________Otzen

Hi Otzen, Lets try the following actions: 1. Remove the previous installed Authentec driver pack from Program and Features in Control Panel, then reinstall. 2. Temporary disable the anti-virus and then check the result. 3. Open Event Viewer, find the crash information for TrueSuite.FPR. Try to find if it crashes on a specified module. What is the model of your computer? I suspect that the standard driver from Authentec is not quite applied to your hardware which may be customized by the computer manufacture. You may download the latest driver from the computer OEM website and install it. If finally we could improve that the Windows 7 beta test driver from Authentec does not work with your computer, we will report this behavior. Arthur Xie - MSFT

I don't know what happend the fist time, but it works now. Thanks for the helpOtzenPS> The two drivers were ...1. AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Minimum Install Versi9on 7.9 (Don't remember where I got it, Probably AuthenTec Sight)2. Authentec WBDI Driver Package Version 1.000.0000 (The one listed above) PPS> If you are still interested I have an HP pavilion dv9700 with a built in fingerprint scanner

“Try to run "regsvr32.exe “C:\Program Files\WIN7TS\WBFLibrary.dll”" without leading and trailing quotation marks, from elevated command prompt. It seems that COM-object from this library is not registered in installation process.”
