Windows Backup, saving to Network Location, on a Homegroup Share
I have 2 machines on a homegroup. I created a folder, and shared it with READ/WRITE access to homegroup. I can access this folder just fine from explorer on both machines. However, when I use MS Backup, and select, "Save to Network", I can browse and find the same folder, however it requires a username and password to be able to use that storage location. If you click on "what should I use for credentials", in the same dialog box, it says if you do not need a username/pwd to access the resource from explorer, to just use the username/pwd that you used to logon to windows. However, that does not work, and just results in an "unknown username or bad password" error.

Because in HomeGroup users access network shares with a system user homegroupuser$. We cannot add this user into administrator group because it is not a created user. Therefore we cannot back up to network shares in this situation because backup needs administrator privilege. I suggest you enter the username\password of an administrator account on the destination computer. If the issue persists, open Network and Sharing Center -> Change Advanced sharing settings, select Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers. Arthur Xie - MSFT

I'm having the same problem: trying to make a system image of my notebook, using my PC as target. But creating an additional account with administrative privileges on my PC (why must this be an administrator, if it just needs to write data?), changing the authentication method on my notebook and even deleting the "online id" link on my notebook did not help. (interestingly my notebook is still authenticating as HomeGroupUser$, if i open a network folder within windows explorer, even after reboot...) And why isn't Windows Backup "HomeGroup aware"?!?
