I'm in the same boat as you.  Here's the problem that I'm running into.  ADK and MDT 2012 64bit works flawlessly on our Windows 2008 R2 Server.  I've even successfully tested ADK 32bit on a Windows 7 Hyper-V machine.  I haven't been able to catalog with MDT for the 32bit Windows 2008 Server service pack 2 getting the exact same error as you above.  I think the issue is related to a missing wimgapi.dll that didn't appear to be on the Windows 2008 Server.  The file should have been pushed by ADK, but I couldn't find it any of the ADK folders.  I managed to copy the file from my Windows 7 32bit client over to the Server since I was running the same ADK version, but I would get the error that you are getting above.

Blowing out and re-installing both MDT and ADK didn't solve the issue either.  I'm having to resort to using a virtualized share of Windows 7 32bit OS for our deployment.

Why? MDT for some strange reason works backwards compared to traditional software.  While the 64bit MDT can deploy both 64bit OS's and 32bit OS's, it won't catalog both.  Only the 32bit will catalog all three IA64, AMD64, and x86, and we still have 32 bit machines in the field, so I need a fix all for everything to keep our images fresh.

I would prefer to use a 32bit Windows server.  The most recent we have is Service Pack 2 Server 2008, but I can't use it as I'm getting same error that you received.

I have had the same issue.  I managed to find a way to resolve it for me by disabling the Access Protection module on McAfee VirusScan (Version 8.8 Patch 2). I had previously found (searching the web) this as the cause of the issues I was having with MDT 2012 building LiteTouch deployment images. Hope this helps.

I know this is an old post, but someone might find this helpful. For some reason SIM will not generate a catalog if the host OS doesn't match the target OS you are trying to create the catalog for. What I found was that I had to install the target OS on a computer and then install the ADK. Use SIM to create the catalog and then bring catalog back to a development machine for use with SIM.

My book covers the details: https://annabooks.com/Book_SGSIM.html
