Windows 9x Family (95/98SE/ME) cannot access Windows 7 Pro x86
Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone,
I have VMware Workstation installed on my Windows 7 x86 Professional computer and the Windows 9x family (95/98SE/ME) cannot access my Windows 7 machine, even though I have the correct Workgroup assigned to the virtual machines. I get the following message
after the \\BEN-PC\IPC$ fix:
\\Ben-PC is not accessible.
This request is not supported by the network.
However, when I type in \\Ben-PC\ShareName or
\\Ben-PC/PrinterShareName, I don't get a red flag. I set the Windows 9x machines LMCompatibility to NTLM 2 only and my Host - Windows 7 Pro x86 to Send LM & NTLN - Use NTLMv2 session security
if negotiated, I have the same User Names and Passwords on the virtual machines to the exact username and password on my host. I can access my Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Home Virtual Machines from the Windows 9x machines without any problems, heck,
I can access every VM from my host computer.
I also disabled the 128-Bit encryption for better access since the 9x machines support 40-bit or 56-bit encryption, changed the Sharing and Security model for local accounts to Guest Only to prevent the
\\Ben-PC\IPC$ screen. Am I missing anything?
