Windows 8 there was a problem mounting the file

Hello,

I downloaded MS Office 2013 as part of the Action Pack benefits on a Window 8 64b, and I received a .iso file.

When doubleclicking the file, I get an error message stating "Sorry, there was an error mounting the file".

How to fix this and have my benefits installed?

Thanks for swift answer, I need it for Monday.

Look in your event logs, maybe there will be details about what went wrong.

I've used the .iso mounting feature - it makes it look like you put a CD/DVD into an optical drive, and it does work.

If your system is failing to mount it perhaps the .iso was corrupted or incomplete.  Can you download it again?

Windows 8 has issues when you have SD drives in your laptop:

So use disk management and change the drive letter of the SD drive to a high values like W:, now the mount should work.

Are you kidding me?  So it's just a drive letter conflict with a flash drive?  You have to wonder whether the person who wrote the code to select a drive to map to the ISO ever used anything more than the simplest of systems.

That article implies the mount completed successfully even though the message was emitted.  I wonder, did that happen for Frederic?

Frederic, the article suggests, if you have trouble reading it, that you change the drive letter of a flash card drive in your system to be a letter late in the alphabet, so that there are more available at the low end for the mounting algorithm to choose from.

I'll have to experiment, given that knowledge, with this to see if I can reproduce this issue.  It might warrant a page in the "Bugs" section of my book.

Once again, thank you, Andre.  You seem to be gaining experience with Windows 8 faster than most.  :)

Can you mount other images?

Can you mount within Powershell?

Maybe the issue is the image.

Hello Noel,

Thanks for your answer.

I tried to download it again several time, an strangly, I had a miracle window (huhu) during which I manage to see the content of the file. It gave me the time to install the stuff. But now, I still have the .iso in my Download folder and each time I try to re-open it (mount it) I still get again the same error message. So it is an intermitant problem.

I tried the same with the .iso downloaded for Project 2013 and Visio 2013, but I can give you a result about these 2 as I get for the 2 "The content is corrupted" (I already downloaded them many time, and also on another PC, same result).

For your book, on my brand new Asus running Win 8 only, I tried to install Bit-Dedender and it completely block the PC. So I bought a brand new Kaspersky 2013 specially branded for Windows 8, and when trying to install it without being connected at the internet, I get the message "Uncompatible operating system"... ;-)

The most interesting feature of Win 8 I used is the "Reinitialise your PC as it was when you bought it"... already used 4 times...

Frederic.

@Frederic:

As far as I can get from here, you need MP1 release of Kaspersky Internet Security in order to install on Windows 8.

Install Win8 RTM and download and install KIS 2013 MP1.

Possibly, older versions supported only-pre release versions of Windows 8.

I believe, you need to download builds 13.0.1.4190 and

You're welcome, and thank you for the additional information, Frederic.

I have the same issues. I downloaded office 2013 on my new windows 8.1 Mac. Windows runs great on it. But the office 2013 pro package I am trying to install just gives me that "sorry cannot mount drive" error message.

How can I open that file to start the installation?

Any help is appreciated!
