Windows 8 not saving settings

I have a problem with Windows 8 Pro.

Basically, it doesn't save profile settings, for example, created docs, desktop personalisation, log on window personalisation, etc.

So every time I log off or shut down the computer, all settings are reverted to default, like a fresh install.

Even the setting of Other Software's are also not saving, for example, when i change settings of media player's and restart my pc its reverted to default. Even the download history of Internet Download Manager is also reverted back when i shutdown.

Thanks for your help in advance!

This used to happen if the ID you log in as isn't a member of the local "Users" group, but I'm not sure if that's true anymore.  Also, what happens if you log in as an admin?  Is this machine joined to a domain or workgroup?

I'd still verify it is indeed in the "Users" group.  What happens if you create a new user and log in, make changes, and log out?  Just curious if this is all users, or just your user account.

I suspect you installed any third party software which restores the previous state. Please check that.

If the computer is in domain environment, please contact IT stuff if there is any group policy to perform the restore.

I found that it was in... Change PC Settings > Skydrive > Sync Settings. Change the three toggles under Personalization Settings to OFF. It was very frustrating to get my tiles the way I wanted them, only to have them revert every time I rebooted. Found this and I was in love with W8 again.

Thanks John!  That solved my issue!

I have another User ID I use just for work but I still use my SkyDrive login from my main account while I'm in the work ID account. So by disabling those SkyDrive syncs in my work user ID settings, it solved the issue.

I had kind of the same problem... What I did was create another user with administrator privileges. Set up the account the way you want and log into to make sure it's right. Then delete the old administrator account. The new account should work. Something must have become corrupted or changed in the original account that must have made it loose administrative privileges. Hope this helps. Also you can recreate the old account and delete the new so you can use the old email address
