Windows 8 not booting...

Sorry, for some reason I couldn't reply earlier. I left easybcd open once, so somebody probably might have deleted my boot entries. No, I did not mount the drive. Ubuntu is on a 100 gb partition of my 500 gb C drive. I have a Dell inspiron 3520. When I used the command line I found out Dell installed it in the D drive. I can't give you the image because technet won't send me the verification email. How do I make it manually resend the verification email?

Please... somebody help.

I made a new thread because the solutions that fixed other people's problems don't seem to work for me. I had ubuntu 12.10 installed alongside Windows 8 and had a perfect dual boot. Now I get an error that the boot files don't have valid information for an operating system. I used boot repair but it only fixed ubuntu. bootrec.exe /fixmbr and fixboot and scanos work. Scanos returns 1 windows 8 installation. When I use bootrec /rebuildbcd, I get an error: The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria. I tried the nuclear holocaust method on this link http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Windows+Bootloader+from+the+DVD and I also tried this link http://qliktips.blogspot.com.ar/2012/11/fix-windows-8-boot-issue.html)Bootrec but I keep getting the indistinguishable error. I believe I've tried everything. Can somebody help me?

You said it was working. What changed? Do you ever mount the Windows partition from within Ubuntu? If so, remember to turn off fast start for Windows 8 or it will corrupt the drive.  Are the installs on one drive or two? What does your partition table(s) look like?

So many views and not any replies? I'm still here(for anyone who thought I was gone). Can somebody help me? I need to restore the BCD files.

Can somebody please at least try?

Hi,

Please try to run the following command:

bcdboot c:\Windows

This is an old thread, but I'd like to let you know what I learned in fixing this problem:

The error above was because I had more than one partition flagged with the "boot" flag.  When I unflagged the other partition and re-ran Startup Repair using my install DVD, the BCD was repaired and I was able to boot just fine.  I then used my trusty GParted Live CD to turn the flag back on in my Ubuntu partition.  All is well.

Hope this helps someone,
Jeremy
