Windows 8 keeps dropping and forgetting wireless network

I just bought an Acer V3-571G-6407 with Windows 8 and am finding that it periodically drops my connection to the WPA2-Enterprise / AES network I am normally connected to (I have not had the opportunity to try it on a different network). If I leave the computer sitting for a while, it will become disconnected from the network; Windows 8 has forgotten the connection settings and I have to re-enter the username and password. I do not experience this issue with any other devices, including a Windows 7 laptop and several Android devices, so I know the problem is on my end and not the network's.

I've also found this sometimes occurs when rebooting the computer. I'm very nervous because I just bought the system and I don't know for sure if the problem is with the hardware or Windows 8, but since Windows 8 is forgetting the connection settings it seems more likely to be on the OS end.

This problem is of course a massive inconvenience, particularly as I am still setting up the system and have an enormous amount of software to download (legally purchased software from Adobe, Steam, etc, not torrents). Currently I have to babysit the laptop and reconnect every time the connection drops; it's a huge hassle.

Just an idea. Have you dig into power saving configuration?

Hi,

Sometimes the driver issue may cause this issue.

Try to update wireless card driver for your machine, also update BIOS and Chipset.

Furthermore, you can also try to use Windows 7 driver for your wireless.

I'm also having the same issue. What's the solution here?

Same issue, months later

Nope, Win 8 is the issue, continually forgets logon. Major pain... nearly enough to drop windows altogether. Having to remind windows the key for my office and home networks on daily basis is huge flaw, makes it sometimes unusable.

The inability of Microsoft to acknowledge or fix this should be embarrasing.

I'm getting the same issue (forgetting of passwords)!

And i'm sorry - using drivers as an excuse Microsoft is NOT acceptable (and simply does not make sense as its Windows GUI that asks for the password) Microsoft!

I never had this with Windows 8, or 7, only 8.1 - please sort it out ASAP!

I am having the same issue as well. Still no answer here.

I'm having the exact same issue on a tablet. At first I thought it was due to the tablet rebooting faster than the router after a power blink (thus having it search for a wireless network prior to that network being up and available). While I haven't rule out that possibility, further troubleshooting revealed that it not only forgot the network's key, it flat out forgot the entire network, which makes it difficult to reconnect when the SSID is hidden.

At any rate, I found this article: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-networking/windows-81-dropping-wireless-connection/88ef2187-38f6-436b-bc25-e92cf6fe05af

Not sure what ticking the IPv6 is supposed to do, but I went ahead and did it. I do suspect the power management setting may have something to do with it. I'm giving it a shot. Haven't had enough time to test to see if it actually resolved the problem for good.
