Windows 8 deleted files from SD card

Windows 8 automatically restarted on my laptop with my camera still attached. Once it had finished, my files were corrupted on my camera and could not be opened.

I am furious with automatic updates as it has wiped all my honeymoon media. My camera now does not respond to my laptop when that SD card is in

any ideas on how i can resolve this to  get my videos and pic back? Has that update affect my sd card?

Windows updates cant delete the data from the SD card. I would suggest you to use some 3rd party tools to get the data back, before that you can test the SD card on a different system. You can use a tool from Stellar for photo recovery, I have used this in past.

Hi,

Windows update just update related system files and some drivers, it will not affect the data on your SD card.

Please check if other computers can read your camera. If the files still can't be read from your camera, try the photo recovery applications.

Regarding to current information, I suppose that the driver used to read your camera may be corrupted, would you please also check what updates were installed before this issue?

You can recover them so nothing to worry until you overwrite it... you're better off with a recovery software such as this -

Generally, that computer updating often will not erase or corrupt external memory card or hard drive stuffs. However, to avoid such troubles in the future, you also should learn a lesson to make your camera memory card data backups and also never try to update computer data with external camera attached.

And now, to take your preferable videos and pictures back, you can take chances with memory card data recovery software. Simply run your data recovery software on your PC and see whether it is possible to take your previous stuffs back from that camcorder SD card.

Here is some data recovery guidance for you:

Double check your SD card data well and also make data backups well next time.
