Windows 8 and losing desktop on sleep resume

Hello,

I have a brand new Dell E6430S running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. 8 Gb RAM, 128g SSD. It would seem that randomly upon resuming from sleep mode my desktop has been shut down. Normally clicking on the Desktop live tile would bring me back to my running desktop with Outlook, Office, IE etc up and running just as I left it before the machine went to sleep. But on occasion on resuming from sleep, clicking on the desktop live tile takes me to a 'fresh' desktop with all the applications that were left running now shut down. If I start IE I would get the default message saying that the previous session ended unexpectedly. Note - there no BSODs or anything to indicate that there was a problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

My bad - I said 'resume from sleep' above but its really resume from hibernation. So just to be accurate.

Please check and delete the SystemPowerPolicy registry entry if it is available:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power

On the right side of the window, right-click SystemPowerPolicy, and then click Delete.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Any idea why that particular entry would or could cause this issue? Just curious.

So far so good. I have resumed from the last couple of hibernations with my desktop intact. Thanks Niki.

I'm seeing the same behavior on a Dell XPS12, but editing the registry as suggesting is not resolving the problem.  Any other possible causes/solutions?

Thanks!
