Windows 8 VPN reconnect option after disconnect

Production Windows 8 Professional. I've got a VPN connection I launch when out of the workplace to allow connection to my Exchange server. When I have any sort of blip in my internet connection (which happens too darn often) my VPN drops and doesn't restart until I ask it to manually. With Windows 7 and earlier I was able to configure the VPN connection to reconnect automatically. How do I do that with the new OS?

There was a similar question asked for one of the preview versions and the 'answer' was to have the connection forget the credentials and to set timeout to one minute. That seems to be the opposite of what I need, since it would drop the connection when idle for one minute or longer and require me to not only manually reconnect but to type my credentials in as well!

Hi,

I understand the situation you encountered. But the redial option is removed on Windows 8. For a workaround, we could utilize a Task Schedule to kick off auto redial. Pleasse refer to the last reply in the thread below.

Along with that create another Task which will trigger when your net will be connected

use the same settings from the link provided in previous post Just change some values in Triggers Tab

choose on an event

Log: Microsoft-Windows-NetworkProfile/Operational
Source: NetworkProfile
Event ID: 10000

The 10000 Event ID is logged when you connect to a network.

This is my 1st post in this forum just wanted to help because I also faced this problem but now its sorted :)

Why was it removed? A lot of people use VPN to connect to office network. Now I have to either manually reconnect every time or use some 3rd party tools to connect to a VPN server or set up some task scheduler job just because some jerk at microsoft decided to remove an option to reconnect a dropped VPN connection?

I would also like to understand why this is removed.  It's an extremely useful feature.  On my laptop now I have to reconnect every time the machine wakes up.  I want the connection to remain permanently.  I have a full bitlocker protected os and password on wake so I am not concerned that the connection stays open.

Surely people who know about that option would also be responsible enough to use it?
