Windows 8 VPN Issues

Hi,

I recently upgrade my windows 7 enterprise laptop to Windows 8 Enterprise.  After upgrade, the VPN connection (via Cisco VPN) is connecting.  But I am not able to ping the host or any other server in the Private Network.  Any thoughts and suggestions to fix the issue would help.

Thanks

Hi,

I have similar issues under w8x64, connected, but no access.

Under 32bit version it works.

Did you used any internet security software: f.e Kaspersky (could be later uninstalled....)?

Hi,

I have ever seen some others encountered the same issue. I think it should be caused by this application that is not fully compatible with Windows 8. Please contact Cisco Support for help.

Any answer or solution to this?

I am using 64 bit Windows 8 Pro. Upgraded from Windows 8 (regular) 64 bit on a new machine, Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 (most current), MochaSoft TN5250 and iSeries Access 7.1 for the AS400. Put Mochasoft on to make sure it wasnt my iSeries Access 7.1 software with the problem. And a Cisco ASA5505 VPN Firewall.

I had to do a registry tweak to get cisco to connect.

Open Registry editor by typing regedit in Run prompt
Browse to the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CVirtA
Select the DisplayName to modify, and remove the leading characters from the value data upto "%;" i.e.
For x86, change the value data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter
For x64, change the value data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit

At that point I was able to "connect" to my ASA5505 VPN firewall. But I cant get the TN5250 or anything else in the network to work.

HELP us Microsoft. We are the victim of your "every other windows operating system" being -- not so good.

MS VPN has also problem. Not only Cisco.

For  month on thousands computers.

Microsoft has no will to solve VPN problem. Try to search VPN in this forum  (or Google the whole internet).

And Cisco? The same.

Thanks JiriCvrk.

I see you over in the "Windows 8 Pro VPN Connection problem - No network access" post too that I read completely.

Im uninstalling Kapersky, which came on this Sony Ultrabook Windows 8 Peice of Crap! Im the IT Tech for a company, and when we decided to get our sales staff to VPN to our AS400 to check stock, only ONE had gone out and bought windows 8 laptop without first contacting me. I had already said NO to two previous people on the Windows 8 subject. But no.. someone just HAD to. And I have spent at least 20 full hours (off and on) trying to find a resolution. Emails, calls, everything. Nothing!

Thanks for the quick response. Once i go to a remote hotspot to go try this kapersky uninstall, I will post if that works.

On another note though, two times it DID connect, then I reboot, and it dont. I do not know what was different on the two times I connected. Two different days. Strange.

Uninstalling Kaspersky helps not.

See here

http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=246334&st=0&gopid=1945404&#entry1945404

in November Kaspersky modifications remained deep in network protocols.  I (Xaver13) decided to reinstall. And never return to Kaspersky.

Than VPNs (Cisco and MIcrosoft) worked on fresh Windows installation. But only for some time.

Therefore much better solution is not to use Windows 8.

I uninstalled Kapersky Internet Security 2012 or 2013 and I was then able to access the internal part of my network via VPN.

Im using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 (most current), iSeries Access 7.1 with current Service Pack, and Windows 8 Pro.

Not that this is FIXED by anymeans, but multiple reboots and i still connect and can ping and use 5250 software on other end.

I am going to install AVG and see if it still works (just the AV, not the firewall).

I'm posting here because it was one of the first places Bing and Google showed for this issue. I have tried getting the Cisco VPN client to work to no avail. I even uninstalled Symantec Endpoint protection which also didn't work. What solved the issue for me was installing Shrewsoft VPN, can't post a link but a google or bing search should help you find it. After I installed I was able to ping the local network on go online which I wasn't able to do with the Cisco VPN even though it said I was connected. Hope this helps users who are experiencing the same issue.
