Windows 8 Password must be changed at next logon loop

Hi

We have several Windows 8 pc's connecting to a Windows 2003 Domain.

If a user on Windows 8 has the option "The user must change password at next logon" ticked in ADUC when logging on, they Windows asks the user to change his/her password as it has expired (which is correct) however when you enter in the new password you just go back to the screen where Windows tells you your password has expired and needs to change again. You get stuck in this loop indefinitely.

If the user changes his/her password without the tick in the "The user must change password at next logon" option, then the user can change his password without a problem.

This is not happening on our Windows 7 or Windows XP machines

Please can someone assist

Hi,

Just try to change Password of problematic user account on another computer without such issue or OWA.

Compare the difference between these computer.

You can also try to remove the problematic user account from the AD, and re-add to check the results

Any update, please come back

isn't that just a work around ? would it make sense to ask 500 users to change their passwords using OWA when they can't even logon to their computer ? or ask them to use another computer just for changing their expired password ?

Hi,

We are having exactly the same issue.  Our workaround is to tick the "Password never expires" box in AD.  The user can then change the password after which we untick the box again.  Needless to say this is a real pain as we have 200+ passwords all expiring.

This only happens with Windows 8 (and 8.1), previous versions let the user change the expired password fine

We need a fix for this.

Thanks,

Wayne
