Windows 8 Nvidia GeForce GT 220 Graphics Card Problem
The graphics card repeatedly fails and recovers with a windows kernel mode error.  I have upgraded to Nvidia Driver 320.40 which is the recco for Win 8 64.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks,  Bill

Go back to the 314.22 driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-314.22-whql-driver.html) the 320.xx series has stability issues:

Hi:  Thanks for the info.  I did as you suggested with the 314.22 and I still am getting the same kernel message.  It does recover very quickly.  Any other suggestions?

What about Lany's process? Did you try that?

Thanks!

try the 326.80 Beta driver:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-326.80-beta-driver.html

Also try to increase the TdrDelay value to 8:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946/en-us

Click Start, type regedit in the Search box, and then double-click regedit.exe from the results above. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Browse to and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
On the Edit menu, click New, and then select the following registry value from the drop-down menu specific to your version of Windows (32 bit, or 64 bit):

For 32 bit Windows
Select DWORD (32-bit) value.
Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and click OK.

For 64 bit Windows

Select QWORD (64-bit) value.
Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and clickOK.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I followed the process exactly with the 320.80 and am still getting the same problem.  I appreciate your trying to fix this for me.

Run a tool like OpenhardwareMonitor:

http://openhardwaremonitor.org/

and look at the temperature of the GPU.

Hi:  Thanks for the link - the temp is 49 degrees C or 120 degrees F.

this should be ok. Look if there is a BIOS update for your motherboard and do a RAM check.

Memory test OK - will look into the BIOS update later today.  Thanks for your continued help....

Motherboard is Gigabyte P55-UD6 with ASI BIOS F10.  There is a beta F11d Beta from 11/09/2010 issued for SSD Compatibility.  I do not have an SSD.  Thanks,  Bill

try this BIOS, even if you don't use a SSD.
