Windows 8 NOT WORKING Properly
I just bought a new gaming laptop, a ASUS ROG G751. Unfortunately it has Win 8 and I can't switch to Windows 7. I have had issues with this ongoing since after a few days I've used it.

It does really weird things, somewhat similar to my last computer but different.

Here is a list of some of the glitches/weird things this computer does:

1. Will randomly lose all ability to access internet when connected to router.

For example, I was just watching Netflix and the video stopped to buffer. I noted the wifi icon had a yellow ecxlamation point on it showing somethin was wrong with the connection, even though the wifi on my phone worked fine. COuldn't load any website. So I go to play a vlc video and the video won't load at all and is frozen at 00:00.

2. Randomly, programs like Skype and TeamSpeak will not work and send messages or connect properly, even if the internet is working. Also, as noted before, you can't get a vlc movie to play.

3. Upon waking the laptop up, all of a sudden the left mouse button now closes internet tabs when clicking on them. Click refresh and it opens duplicate tabs up.

4. This has happened a few times - The internet is dead slow even when I speedtest the wifi on my phone and get 14mbps down on it. It will partially load facebook or another site but just the barebones. Looks similar to going online with a cell phone years back where it just loads text.

I honestly have no idea what the hell is going on and neither does Asus. I spent $1500 on this and this is what I get. However when it is running right, it's great, plays every game maxed. This is a legit version of Win 8 and i have tried completely resetting it twice to no avail. Also, it has no viruses.

I'm at a loss of what to do because this happens randomly and if I send it back to Asus it'll work fine, usually does for a while after you restart it, then screw up to where it's unusable. I haven't been able to find anything like this online.

My last computer had Windows 7 and it did something similar, where certain programs just wouldn't operate, like steam, skype or ts. They couldn't connect to the network and receive internet signal.

At first I thought it could be this new Asus's Wireless adapter but that wouldnt cause programs like vlc to become vegetables.

If someone can help me fix this problem for good, i'll send some paypal cash their way. This computer is only a month old, this is ridiculous...

Sounds like network related.  Please upload your event viewer logs

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:

Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post * If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The work around is to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do Press Win+"R" and input regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

I uploaded it but it was only a 1 mb file so I didn't compress it. How could this be a network issue if it also blocks me from using programs that dont need an internet connection, such as VLC?

Just had to restart the computer, installed malwarebytes and did a reboot for it. I restart, open the browser, netflix will not play the video and stands at still of a frame from the show, even though it's loaded the video. All while this and Facebook work.

Also tried turning teamspeak on, it just sits there then says not responding, lol.

I really can't stand Windows 8...

Mav

given that there is only 352 events I can only suggest the most recent problems are network related.  The errors consist of DNS servers not responding and DHCP errors.  Both are related to the network connection that you have. There are other issues (Event ID 37) that are related to the BIOS version but they should not impact network related activities.

Since this is related to your network connection You should contact your ISP.  They will have you run some diagnostics.  This is not related to your machine but rather to your connectivity.

Yeah this has nothing to do with my router or isp its this computer...

May I know exact model and Bundle OS that installed in this PC?

I suggest you isolate the environment by checking per-device

Since you already reformat and this issue still persist, I suspected this is HW issue. But lets try this

I suggest try it at safe mode with networking to isolate 3rd party software issue that maybe caused this issue, if this issue also happen in safe mode with networking, try to update your WIFI driver, if issue still persist try to use LAN cable.

If WIFI and LAN cable doesn't work, maybe ISP or router issue

if WIFI doesn't work, but LAN ok, this is WIFI card issue

Idk how it would be a wireless adapter problem as I have mentioned programs that don't use the internet also freak out and don't operate at all. Its very hard to diagnose the problem because this issue happens randomly, whenever it feels like. Normally, when I restart the computer, it works fine for awhile.

It's an Asus G751 with Windows 8.1

that's the reason why I ask you the exact model, I jut want to check if there is any update all driver for that model (compare the version with yours at device manager based on your exact model)

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G751JM&p=3&s=719

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G751JT&p=3&s=719

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G751JY&p=3&s=719

if you think if this issue seems randomly or intermittent, I suggest perform again OS reinstallation using recovery from ASUS (if OS OEM)

http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=G751JM&s=719&hashedid=H1PGPvZ0ODsnDxTf&os=&no=1775

try to update driver only, and do not install any software, monitor this laptop after that

If issue still persist I suggest you bring it to service center (since I believe this PC still under warranty)

For better assistance I suggest contact Asus

Good luck

It's this -

ASUS ROG G751 Series G751JT-CH71

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232202&cm_re=g751-_-34-232-202-_-Product

Yeah, I have already done a full system reset twice and these problems keep coming back at random. Like right now, its working perfectly fine, but 2 hours ago it was unusable and I had to restart, which fixed it for the moment.

I called Asus they want me to ship it to them, so now ontop of paying $1500 I'm without my work computer while running a startup... On top of that, they wanted me to pay shipping lol.

My fear is they take a look at it and it wont screw up when they use it for five minutes and they'll just send it back.

try to use safe mode with network.Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7

If these issue is not occur in safe mode, we need to check the third party software and drivers.

Please uninstall the Samsung mobile phone program and test.

Run the command sfc /scannow to  to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Hello Mav91890,

What is your current situation?
Have you tried the solution as Nakii mentioned?

I have check the event error log. Lots of them are related to network.
Does these issue only occur when you use the wireless network adapter to connect to the Internet?
Please try to use the wired network adapter to connect, and then check if the issue still exists.
We could try to reset the Wireless router and check if there are misconfiguration there.

Best regards,
Fangzhou CHEN

I just bought an ASUS G751JY and have had similar experiences. I have reset Windows at least 5 times, and finally last night decided to download the Windows ISO from Microsoft and install fresh and everything is working perfectly now. I suspect the Windows installation (and recovery) are corrupt from the start.

I was getting weird NVidia errors, errors creating folders in certain locations, errors connecting to my network. As a matter of fact, from day one during setup, I could not connect to a network. I would have to create a local account, and then after about three repairs to the network, was finally able to sign into my MS account.

I used this ROG post as a guide to installing the required drivers in the correct order and it was perfect.
