Hi,

I would like to know the unique registry entry or any such information which differentiate a laptop system from desktop. This is required for Cisco NAC client to identify the laptop system and follow the checksum which is configured for laptop system.

Earlier for windows7 and windows xp we had we provided battery registry entry given below

Please find the path HKLM\ SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\COMPOSITE_BATTERY\0000\Service

Value Data= Compbatt

Now in windows 8 laptop the above key is not available, please suggest me any such entry which differentiate a windows 8 laptop from windows 8 desktop.

Hi Manish,

As I know, in Windows 8, we can easily find what you required in System Information:

Press Windows key + R, type MSinfo32, and you can find Platform role which identify the desktop or laptop under System summary.

However, I cannot find any key in registry related to this. I suggest you contact Cisco to know what they can do on this information for NAC setting.

Hi, is there something else can be configured, i was looking for registry entry so that i can configure registry path into NAC server, I have got one registry entry but it is not same in all paptops in dell it is diferent and in lenovo it is different.

We can try to identify the computer as desktop or laptop with Processer type in registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Hardware/Description/System
/CentralProcessor/0

Hope we can get this done.
