Windows 8 Freezing While Trying to Download Win. 10
I have tried numerous times to download Win. 10 but every time my machine hangs/freezes. The furthest I got was 46% but I've had it freeze almost immediately. Currently when I click on the Win. 10 icon (on the task bar) it says that 10 is loading in the background and if I close the box everything keeps working.  The problem seems to arise when I open the download status box.  I haven't loaded any new software or hardware and I have the current (I believe) updates to Win 8.

You could try to make changes to the following values in registry and then try it again.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX] "IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings] "UxOption"=dword:00000000

You can also download the Download tool Now and try to upgrade that way.
