Windows 8 Deletes files at startup

Hey everyone.

Here is what is happening. I take out a HDD running windows 8 and put it in another computer (Let's name it TechPC).

I then backup all the data from the HDD to TechPC. Then I put the Windows 8 HDD back into the laptop and format it, reloading windows 8. Then I take the HDD out and put it back into TechPC and start to copy all the data back to the HDD. Verifying that all the data is there.

Now when I put the Windows 8 HDD back into the laptop, the windows will take very long to boot up, and all the data will be gone.... It happens with windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

How can I stop this from happening? I dont want to find a 3.5 HDD enclosure each time I have to copy data back to the HDD.

Thank You

What kind of "data" are you talking about?   If you're just talking about files that belong to users, then OK... that should work.   However, if you're talking about Programs that you have installed, then no... that's not gonna work.

How did you backup the data... just drag-n-drop?

Hi Koekiesbak,

What is the data you have backup(User profile)? How did you do the backup? Are they available on the TechPC?

If the main purpose is to backup the data, we could create a share folder from the TechPC then backup all the data to the shared folder. It should be more easy.
