Windows 8 AND 7 hacked then corrupted (possibly through Chrome)
A few days  ago I  left my computer (Windows 8) on connected through my Chrome profile and my VPN when I went to work.  I had Panda professional Antivirus working and MalwareBytes Pro as my defensive software.  When I arrived home, I attempted some downloads.  They would start out at around 1MB/sec, then quickly drop to 10 KB/sec.  Every time I merged a thread on my download, my speed would skyrocket and then quickly plummet.  I then attempted to watch Netflix with the downloads running.  Netflix wouldn't work even though I have a fast computer (quad core, 16GB Ram).  When I disconnected from downloading, I was unable to get my browser to load any page that would allow me to access microsoft security questions, antivirus websites, or anything else that could have potentially helped.  I tried my other browser, I.E., and it wouldn't even open the homepage.  Neither could I load the Firefox page. I ran scans with both antivirus programs and saw that the first suspicious thing came from chrome temp/appdata cookie and that the virus software had deleted it.  The other two cookies were in the windows registry.  I tried everything short of wiping my disk but no joy.  I sent my computer to the shop to get fixed.  I connected my Win 7 laptop, loaded my Chrome profile (after having deleted extensions) and it quickly corrupted in the same manner even though it was a different OS. So my Questions:  Was this a virus, worm or trojan?  How could it jump operating sytems?  Is my Chrome profile safe to use now that I have my Windows 8 (now upgraded to 8.1 with Norton 360 total protection an Malware bytes pro) ?  For now, Im using a blank Chrome profile in Sandbox BUT IM SCARED to even check my email, as this would load my old profile.  I can only check it through my Iphone which has gmail as a separate app.  Please answer as many questions as possible and let me know if I can load my old Chrome profile and get my computer routine back on track.

I suggest you try to create new chrome profile to test

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/142059?hl=en

but before that try to delete user data at app chrome path (it will Reset everything -  Boomark, password , etc)

for further investigation I suggest contact Google since its triggered by chrome profile

Sorry for the trouble. Did both the computers had Norton? Let me know the version of Norton you have. Have you tried running a manual scan on your Norton?

Thanks!
