Windows 8/MDT Deployment/Metro not loading on first boot

Hi All,

Wasnt sure if this is the right place for this question but its closest in my opinion.

I have a Windows 8 MDT 2012 deployment that has worked on Lenovo Yoga S1s as well as Toshiba Z10t and MS Surface.  I'm trying to test the new Lenovo Yoga 12 and am coming across a weird issue.  When I deploy on this device, the deployment media drops the OS and runs through the initial "Setup" prior to displaying the desktop/metro interface.  Once it gets into windows, it hangs at the desktop until I bring up the metro interface and go back to the desktop.  When it "hangs" i'm still able to navigate via mouse pad/touch screen as well as use the keyboard.  Other applications (explorer.exe, trace64, eventvwr, compmgmt, task manager) run without a problem.  I do not get desktop icons but can right click the desktop.  My MDT deployment does not continue until the metro interface has come up.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi,

If you have inject any hardware driver with your image, especially graphic card driver, please try to remove these driver for test.

On the other hand, you can access to the path below to check the deployment log  if it record any message:

%WINDIR%\TEMP\DeploymentLogs

Thanks for the comment Roger.  Yep, Graphics driver was the culprit.  Updated to the latest provided by Lenovo and all is well.  I assumed it had to be a driver issue somewhere since that was the only change on deployment but I find it strange that a driver would stop all metro/software from auto loading.

as for the Deployment logs, thats also one of the items that didnt initiate so last line in log was from the PE reboot (until I hit the windows button to bring up the metro interface).

All is well now, thanks for the assist.
