Windows 8.1 won't wake up from sleep

I seem to have the same problem that many have already expressed, the difference is that my laptop (HP ENVY) just started sleeping in, permanently and not waking up. I prefer to have my computer sleep, rather than hibernate (although I'm not clear as to the difference in the two states), and would like to have it return to "obedient" mode and comply with my every command, in this case "sleep" when I close the cover, and "wake" when I return and open the cover.

Any ideas of how to accomplish this?

Hi,

"in this case "sleep" when I close the cover, and "wake" when I return and open the cover."

Did you try to wake your computer by pressing any key on the keyboard, clicking a mouse button, please lauch Device Manager, find your mouse and keyboard deivces, right click\Properties, then under "Power Management" option, check the "Allow this device to wake the computer box"

And check the "Power Management" option of the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in device manager, Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
