Windows 8.1 upgrade does not work.
Windows 8.1 upgarde does not work. Got the upgrade from Windows Store and get blue screen of death.
What should I do?
I already try to reboot. Reboots into blue screen.
Tryed using Linux and does not want to boot. I but a new hard drive in and the computer works. I reimaged the drive to a new drive. Still same problem.
I tried to reinstall from backup. Same blue screen.
Is Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade broken?
Is there a way to updated from Windows Updates instead of Windows Store? I think the problem is with Windows Store.

Also it is no Windows RT. I saw that WIndows pulled the plug on Windows RT.
This is a normal Windows 8.1 Pro for a desktops computers. The upgrade has failled on 7 computers so far.
Is MS going to pull this flawed updated or what is the stepps need to fix it?

Need to know what error appeared on the blue screen. It should have been recorded in Event Viewer.

Hi,
I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will try to help you in fixing the issue.
For the issue, lets temporarily disable Windows firewall and security software to check if that helps.
Meanwhile, I suggest you upload the dump file so that we can help you analyze them.
Please refer to the following article to get the dump files:
Overview of memory dump file options for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2.

For all I know, the steps in this link also apply to Windows 8.
NOTE: I highly recommend you use SkyDrive to upload collected files and to post screen shots/pictures. Although you might not be used to it, SkyDrive features a lot of free advanced functionality around file storage capacity, sharing, privacy, and collaboration:

I can not get into the Event Viewer because windows 8.1 does not want to start. I tried safe mode and same problem.

You should be able to get to the Windows Boot Menu screen by pressing F8. There should be an option there to disable automatic restart on system failure. This will let you see what the error is on the blue screen when Windows tries to boot.

You may have to boot into windows PE and attempt to repair the installation.

You may have to boot into windows PE and attempt to repair the installation.
How is this done?
I had a PE disk for other systems but it will not boot in Windows 8.1 because of seure boot that MS created.

If you have a Windows 8.1 iso, you can make a disk or bootable USB (from another PC) and boot from said disk. From there after you select language and time zone, you should have the option to "Repair your computer" on the bottom left of the install screen.

yes, in my case as well this is a normal Windows 8.1 Pro for a desktops computers. It simply says. tue installation ca not be performed, error code 0x8007004, or in some
cases 0x80070652 and it goes back to win 8 I can use normally.
I performed all what suggested in the forum, without success. I am based in Switzerland, I tried to contact the help line: the given phone number is wrong number:
0848858568 (not busy number) and by email the system refuses my ID product (bought by web) as it is was a fake id.
No help from Windows, a wrong update. It no use to try to get the market with this kind of policy.
Should I go to linux or Mac?

I tried that, but it asks for the key and if I give my win8 key it does not recognize it.

It would seem noay, that you purchased a version of Windows that is not genuine. I would contact the retailer and let them know you require a refund as the product is not genuine.

Go to linux. The support will be better.
MS close topics and marks them answered without letting the poster said if it is closed or not.
Company will be switch to new OS once our test group finishes. Windows 8.1 has been vote down by our test group. Linux on other hand has been voted up.

It is a valid. It is the MS upgrade that is broken. Because many people are having this problem.

Go back to Windows 8. That is so far the best solution that I have gotten from others. Or switch to Linux.
October 29th, 2013 2:55am
Any other suggestions for this?

The following link gives an solution to the problem:

The key is to read the article, then read the comments for a method to not allow the installation to ask for CD key straight away.
Get your Windows 8 Key ready.
Install Windows 8.1 using the prepared USB (or DVD but USB is much easier). After the installation it will ask for your Windows Key, be sure to enter your Windows 8 Key at this point, DO NOT skip and enter the key later.
And that's it.

Still same problem. Maybe I miss a step. Thanks for this and will have to try this later again. Or skip it since the company has had to much problems with windows 8 and are currently planning to move away from MS.
This should have been an easy download from Windows Updates site but MS seems to want to not do things easy. Complicated and difficult seems the way they do things now.

When you say still the same problem, what exact problem was that? In my attempt, I wasn't able to upgrade from 8 to 8.1. I did a 8.1 install from scratch. Seems the original 8 install had some issues.

The exact problem is that the upgrade does not want to install and gives a blue screen of death.
I have not tried a install from scratch yet. Will try that soon.

Try from scratch and the same problem.
Earlier you mentioned a "firewall". Sounded third-party. What is that? Try uninstalling it? Disconnecting from the network if necessary to satisfy your site's policy. Also, at one point you were having unique problems apparently
on an Enterprise version. Now in this thread you are mentioning Pro?

default MS firewall
Something else then. There must be something unique about your configuration that is causing you so many problem symptoms. The BSOD suggests it is a driver, so perhaps an unsupported device. You mentioned before that that would be an issue
for your organization so I suggested a virtualized configuration might be the answer (e.g. MDOP, MED-V), e.g. to isolate such compatibility issues to older OS or at least confine support problems in one place <w>.
In any case, review of the thread suggests that you now have bootable recovery media? So, you may be able to do the Event log checking using that. I can't remember for sure if eventvwr.exe can be run in a Command only boot
but I think so. There are other text-based diagnostics which you could probably find and use from Command only mode too.
