Windows 8.1 update with MAK key

ok so since we run Windows 8 pro using MAK keys in ur company how does one update or get the update?  From this link i can't believe that MS would send out an update that would require a complete reintall just because we use a Volume License with a MAK key.  Any help would be appreciated.

You can download an ISO file from the Microsoft Support page or Volume Licensing Center.

Extract the contents to a file share. If you do manually the update process, open an UNC path and double click the setup.exe file. When an installation starts, you can choose "Upgrade".

If you have chance to use a more professional way like SCCM, you can create a task sequence.

The Windows 8 MAK keys cannot be used for the Windows 8.1 activation.

So is 8.1 only KMS?

Hi,

This depends on the agreement when your computer buy the MAK keys. If SA about Free upgrade hasnt been bought in the agreement, you may need to buy the new keys.

For detailed information, please contact license experts:

Hope these could be helpful.

ok so i downloaded the 8.1 ISO file from VLSC.  I put it on a USB drive using Windows 7 usb tool.  When i click on setup.exe i get the windows 8 splash screen and then it says preparing and it goes to 100% then it goes away and nothing.  I even tried to boot the usb drive and it tells me to boot to and upgrade that way.   Hmm what else can i do?

Hello,

Look for the setupact.log files on your machine from the failed upgrade attempt.

Make that available for download,
