Windows 8.1 stuck on lock screen.
After updating the February 2014 patch Tuesday my Shuttle XS35GS computer will not go past the lock screen. I can see the time and date and network icon. Usually I would press a key on the keyboard or click the mouse and the picture would move up and I would be presented with my user where I type my password. I have tried wireless and wired keyboards and mice. All have power, the caps light comes on the and the mouse laser is red and the pointer moves around the screen but the lock screen will not slide up and allow me to enter the password. I have to users on the machine and I can't switch to another as the left arrow button is on the next screen, which I can't get to. Any ideas anyone please?

Power off your system and unplug keyboard and mouse.

Wait for a few minutes and plug them to another usb ports.

Restart the machine.

Does it help?

Hi,

If the suggestion of S.Sengupta doesn't resolve the issue, please boot from your Windows 8/8.1 installation media to repair it:

1.Insert a Windows 8/8.1 DVD, or a flash drive with the Windows 8/8.1 installation files on it, into your computer.

Tip: You can borrow someone else's Windows 8/8.1 disc or other media if you need to. You're not installing or reinstalling Windows 8/8.1, you're just accessing Advanced Startup Options - no product key or license breaking required.

2.Boot from the disc or boot from the USB device.

3.From the Windows Setup screen, tap or click on Next.

4.Tap or click on the Repair your computer link at the bottom of the window.

5.Advanced Startup Options will start, almost immediately.

6.Select System Restore to roll back to a time when everything works fine.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I had a USB keyboard, USB mouse and a bluetooth keyboard trackpad combo all connected and working but none would shift the lock screen. I tried two system restores going back into January but these didn't fix the issue. Still stuck on lockscreen. In the end, going though Advance Startup options, I plunged for the complete Reset. I now have my machine back, albeit in a vanilla state. I have left it installing all the updates. I am obviously hoping it doesn't happen again when it gets to the latest updates. I'll update this thread on Saturday when I next get a chance to make sure all updates are applied.

Stephen_d_morris,

I just wanted to check to see if your issue reoccurred after performing the system reset.  Hopefully everything worked out ok.

Yes, the System Reset put everything back and the updates went through fine.

Thanks all.
