Windows 8.1 problem reporting task is stalling my laptop

I have a Windows 8.1 pro (latest version) running on a brand new Vaio with 12GB memory and intel i7 core and with an SSD. It is definitely not a slow laptop.

I had a file explorer crash the other day which triggered Windows Problem Reporting task to upload a report. The wireless network I was connected to was very slow and unreliable. What I noticed was that my laptop suddenly stalled for half an hour. It had a nearly 15s UI lag!!!

Restarting did not help. The only solution seemed to be to turn on airplane mode.

I want to see the issues I find fixed so I would prefer to manage this problem rather than simply disable error reporting.

Is there a way to assign the lowest priority to the Windows Reporting task?

Hi,

Did you update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8?

If so,please update all drivers first.

Regarding Problem Report, please change the settings:

1. Click Start Control Panel

2. Click System and Security Action center. In the leftpane, click Change Action Center Settings

3. Click Problem Report Settings Change Report Settings for all users

4. Select Each time a problem occurs, ask me before checking for solutions and Click OK.

Also, when the issue happens, please check the wermgr.exe on Task Manager to see if it doesn't respond.
