Windows 8.1 pro having search issue....

We have purchased new HP machines with windows 8.1 pro OS pre installed on the system,in which windows search is unable to search in mapped drive,We have a mapped drive in which  .pdf , .tiff , .dwg files are placed

If we search like with "6022" in windows 7 or windows vista or windows XP its showing 96 files and same thing if we ll do with windows 8.1 it shows only one PDF file. so its unable to search the files which are already there in the mapped drive.

So can you please tell the resolution for this problem....

Are the network share index. By default windows 8.1 doesn't index network share so you might want to add those.

Quick guide here about indexing.

I did small practical what i did I right click on One of the small size folder from the mapped drive and make it as "Always Available Offline" and then went to Indexing property and made Offline Files Indexed and then restarted the pc and then searched in that folder like "07300" and there were 43 files(No of files searched are Same as in Windows7 and windows Vista ).

Now Once again i removed that folder from "Always Available Offline" and then searched "07300" it was only able to find 22 files.

Our Network drive size is near to 600 GB so we can not do that Offline Indexing.

Downloaded and Used the mentioned tool and added network shared folder in to the library and then rebuild the index and then tried to search the same thing as per earlier thread but its searching only 22 files instead of 43 Files.

Issue not resolved!!!!

Hi Malav,

Please search "Indexing Options" and check the configurations here.

We could modify the locations included in the options, we also could choose the "Advanced" ,check the files types included in the options.
If issue persists, we could choose the troubleshoot tool (Troubleshoot search and indexing) to have a diagnostic.

NO SUCCESS.......

Please tell the solution.

Hi Malav,

We could choose "Rebuild" option to delete the index and configure it again to have a check.

To understand the issue more clearly, please upload the screenshots of the search results and the indexing configurations.
We could try to map a small folder and refer to the link posted before to add the indexing to have a test. Please pay attention whether the issue only occurred with the specific types.

Hi Malav,

The "Offline files" option is not included in the option. Have you checked the offline option of the network drive and sync the offline files?

Please open "sync center", "manage offline files"and enable the "offline files".

Sir I already mentioned the steps which i had performed in earlier thread,I cant do this cause my Network drive is around 600 GB so that i cant use the offline files option.

My question is simple if Windows XP,Windows Vista,Windows 7 easily can search files why windows 8 is having this issue,I have not done any types of troubleshooting in win XP,Vista and Win 7 why i need to perform troubleshooting in windows 8.1.

so Microsoft needs to work on the same and will have to give some patches so that this issue get resolved.

I am once again explaining the steps which i performed,

I did small practical what i did I right click on One of the small size folder from the mapped drive and make it as "Always Available Offline" and then went to Indexing property and made Offline Files Indexed and then restarted the pc and then searched in that folder like "07300" and there were 43 files(No of files searched are Same as in Windows7 and windows Vista ).

Thanks,

Malav Dhimmar.

Sir anything that you can assist with?

Thanks in Advance.

August 14th, 2015 12:18am

Hi Malav,

Considering the index of the network drive is based on the offline feature but the network drive is too big to be available offline.
As a work around, we could arrange the files of the network drive based on folder, then share the folders one by one to map them instead of mapping the whole 600G network drive. This is the only solution I could figure out.
