Windows 8.1 can't see PS3
My fiance' just bought me a new HP 15 laptop running windows 8.1 I am not the most computer savvy person but I thought I could use my wireless network to watch movies or play music from my computer on my PS3 seeing as my old laptop I was able to set up to do just that. My old laptop was running Vista and setting it up was easy. When I look at the devices on my network I don't even see my PS3. I have enabled the PS3 to share but the two just can't find each other. I have also tried downloading the PS3 media server and that was a bust as well. I have alreaday configured WMP to share also with no luck. I have looked at other forums and tried a number of things but to no avail. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

go to general configuration tab and try another port, default will be 5001, change to 5002 or 5003

Did you also check this document regarding PS3 Media Server setting?

did you also try to use another 3rd party software like Universal Media Server? uninstall it or choose either one, different software using the same port maybe caused an issue

did you also try to enable media sharing option on your Windows 8.1 PC

  1. Go to Network and Sharing Center
  2. Click Change advanced sharing settings
  3. Click on the arrow next to All networks profile
  4. Click Choose Media Streaming Options
  5. Turn on media streaming

I also suggest you update your WLan card driver. find it at HP site

I also suggest you to check with Sony as PS3 manufactured regarding this issue
