"There was a problem installing updates. Error code: 80070005

Generally speaking, the 0x80070005 error code is interpreted as an "Access Denied" result. The question becomes what is being denied access, and why.

If the installation was being done via the WUAgent (AU/WU/MU/WSUS), try installing the update interactively from the Administrator account.

If the update was being installed interactively, see if you can locate a detailed installation log for the package.

Beyond that, you probably need to pursue this conversation in the Windows 8 forum, not the Training and Certification forum. Possibly a mod here will move this thread over to the Windows 8 forum.

Hi,

This error can be caused by permission issue, please try steps in this article to fix this issue:

Error 0x80070005 in Windows Update when you try to install updates
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968003/en-us

If there is any third part security application installed on your computer, please temporarily remove it to check the results.

If we cannot get this fixed, please run following command to reset permission, make sure to run as administrator:

cd /d c:\windows

icacls * /T /Q /C /RESET

For further troubleshooting, please help to upload the %windir%\windowsupdate.log here for our research.

I have this error in windows update, when trying to uninstall the secondlife viewer program, when trying to bring up the task manager, I could go on and on, and it is getting worse. I tried your link to the Microsoft article and it gave me the same error-0x80070005 access denied. It even pops up up when I TRY A RECOVERY OR RESET. I am using windows 8 upgraded to 8.1 and if it wasn't for this error I'd love windows 8-8.1. As it is I'm getting worried about windows 10. What must I do to fix this? It even pops up when I use the admin account in safe mode.

I get this when trying your link----

Runtime Error Description: An exception occurred while processing your request. Additionally, another exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first exception. The request has been terminated.

I'm getting the "access denied" on nearly everything. It's driving me crazy.
