Windows 8.1 Unable to search files by file content?

Hi.

I have some workstations that I've upgraded to windows 8.1. But now I have a problem where my coworkers can't search pdf files by their file contents on our network share. This works on all our other windows 7 and 8 platforms where I am presented with the file name and also the contents of the file below highlighted to where the search term is found, just not on our windows 8.1 machines.

Ive tried looking at the indexing filetypes and found an error with pdf files (Ifilter not found) but installing the newest ifilter fix from adobes website doesn't seem to fix my problem although the ifilter not found error is gone.

How do i fix this problem so my coworkers can search in pdf files on their windows 8.1 machines?

Hi,

Since the error ifilter not found is gone, we may check the settings in Indexing option -> Advanced:

If the issue still persists, please try to following registry fix. Make sure to backup your registry key for avoiding unexpected errors:

iFilter PDF search stops working on Windows 8 x64

If we still fail to fix this issue, please test whether another user account log in this computer still has such issue.

If not, we may need to repair this corrupted user profile.

Look forward to your response.

I've tried what you suggested and none of it worked for the network folder atleast, the ifilter is correctly shown and I can search the locally indexed files. Perhaps the problem is related to how windows 8.1 connects to the server which has the network folder and it can't read the index? My boss and I can't figure out where the problem specifically is.
