Windows 8.1 Tiered Storage Spaces created on Server 2012 R2

Hi everyone,

So basically, my title already includes the question for the most part. I am curious to know, how Windows 8.1 will treat a storage space created under Server 2012 R2 if said storage space uses the tiered storage function? Will the Storage Space behave like it would on Windows Server and store frequently accessed data to the SSD on a preferred basis or will it revert to Windows 8.1 default mechanism of storing the first files written to the SSD(s) and all subsequent data to the HDD(s)?

Thanks :)

Hi Ilnahro,

The storage tiering is a feature included in Server 2012 R2, it is not available in Windows 8.1.
In theory, it should not be supported by Windows 8.1. But somelse has tested this and found that this technology seems to be remained in Windows 8.1.
Here is a link for reference(Pay attention to Merle`s reply):

Due to the limited working environment, it is not available for us to test this. If you are interested in this, you could make a test by yourself. "Practice makes perfect".
Thanks for your understanding.
