Windows 8.1 RTM incompatibility with Adobe Illustrator CS6

Hi there,

I have a clean install of Windows 8.1 RTM (es-ES locale) on which I have installed the Adobe CS6 Suite (also es-ES locale). Every application opens correctly except for Adobe Illustrator CS6, which refuses to open, showing an error message saying the application isn't compatible with the OS's language and instructing me to make changes in the regional settings for non-Unicode programs. Having followed said instructions, Illustrator still refuses to start and shows the exact same error message. This application was working 100% correctly on Windows 8.

The only "solution" I have been suggested is reinstalling the application in English, but for those of us who purchased the CS6 suite in a different locale this isn't an option as it would mean re-purchasing. Adobe hasn't got back to me about this issue, but having established the problem arises only when using Windows 8.1 I would think it strongly suggests an incompatibility, and not necessarily a bug in the application.

Any thoughts?

I suggest report this issue to the Adobe too and post in their forums. The final release of Windows 8.1 is still on the way.

Yep, already submitted the bug to Adobe but as I said I haven't heard anything from them. I would have thought this would have been detected and/or solved before, as this situation has been reported since Preview.

I suppose the only thing to do is to wait and see if:

1) Adobe releases a fix, or

2) Microsoft releases a compatibility update post-RTM.

So to sum it up, if anyone is running non-English versions of Windows 8.1 RTM and Illustrator CS6 there is no way to run the application as of today. The only solutions are going back to Windows 8.0 or purchasing an English version of the application.

I'm marking your reply as an answer as it is the correct way to (try to) have problems of this sort solved.

For compatibility issues, the manufacturers and Microsoft should work together. Thank you for sharing.
