After installing Windows 8.1 Pro Preview over Windows 8,(1) Silverlight is no longer recognized on a webpage, which was doing it earlier on Windows 8(2) USB Internet Stopped Workingand giving message "Unable to create a Phone-Book entry" or "... stopped working"(3)A Wscriptprogramrunningwell on Windows 8has started throwing'unspecified error', probably onbreaking of a line and introduction of a new line with"_"character.

These may be due to bugs, which need to be rectified.

Becasue you have three question, I'll reply them one by one.

1.  reinstall Silverlight
http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx

2. Refer to http://www.askvg.com/fix-internet-connection-not-working-using-mobile-phones-or-usb-modems-in-windows/

3. Confirm the script is composed by CU himself. If yes, there would be compatibility issue on Windows 8.1.

In additon, these problem probably caused by the cover installation. I highly recommend you to install Windows 8.1 by clean install for test.

If the problem persists after you clean install Windows 8.1, please feel free let me know.

Thank you for your guidance on all the three issues. The item-wise feedback is as follows:-

1. I reinstalled Silverlight from the given site, as done many times earlier but no change. Let me add further that the issue persists on my VAIO laptop (earlier upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro, then upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro Preview) but not on my ASUS laptop (Clean installed Windows 8 Pro, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro Preview).

2. The webpage proved very useful. Thank you once again.

3. The said Wscript has been written by me. Interestingly, it runs without problem on the VAIO laptop and throws the reported error on the ASUS laptop.

Clean installation will reset and remove everything once again and therefore, I am wary. Further, it may not be of any help, in view of the dichotomy narrated in items 1 & 2 above.

Any other fixes please ?

It is added here that after I installed 'Upgrade to Windows 8' (drivers & utilities) from Sony VAIO website, the Silverlight is now recognized as on the Asus laptop but the Wscript error has now gripped the VAIO laptop, as for the Asus laptop.

So, only the Wscript error now needs to be resolved on Windows 8.1.
