Windows 8.1 Kiosk Mode with multipe applications

Greetings,

Our organization is looking at creating a kiosk type system that will be used at our Citys Firehalls. The system will be used for accessing a specific application for Firehall staff to view and manage their shifts, however it will also be uses so staff can access the Citys Intranet and e-mail via OWA. We will also need to grant access to applications like Acrobat, Word, Excel for PDF viewing, and potentially Flash for streaming videos. We will want this system to auto login to Windows.

We have set a number of kiosk systems in the past, however the typical Windows kiosk configuration only allows running a single application in full screen. In this case, we want both a Windows application as well Internet Explorer. It would be ideal to have the system auto log in and go to something like a menu to launch either the Firehall application or the browser. Im curious if there is an option in Windows 8.1 were you could use the Windows 8 Start page as a type of menu where both the Firehall app and the Internet Explorer were the only two available applications. Whenever you closed either program, you would then just go back to the Start page.

Also, is there any Windows utility or control that would essentially reset the system after every reboot? Im thinking something like the write filter that you see in Windows Embedded. I would like to set a mandatory reboot. Any changes or potential installation of web cookies, activeX control, etc would all be removed after the reboot.

Any feedback on this would be much appreciated

Regards,

Greg

Hi Greg,

All the built-in feature in the Windows 8.1 cannot meet your requiremnet. Sinde kiosk mode of Windows 8.1 is only worked on one application. It cannot provide any other function. The user can neither drag the application down to close it, nor the charms or any other shortcuts will work.

According to your descripton, i consider you need to develop an app to implement your goal.

Alternative, AppLocker is a workaround option for you. You could know it well from this material:
