Windows 8.1 Connectivity Problems

Hello

I recently had a power cut in my neighborhood and this has caused my computer to suddenly cause problems logging in. Where it would say diagnosing my PC and also repairing problems. It didnt seem to work after a few days therefore I decided to restore my computer which caused my computer to update to Windows 8.1.

This worked for me and as I filled out all the new information and logged in into my account. I try to go on the internet but I see a problem. Limited Access. This was very frustrating because all other computers and devices has internet connection. So I decided to go on our family computer to find solutions for this problem. I tried many ways to solve this problem, for example. Using commands in Command Prompt, restarting modem/pc, Control Panel settings and also trying to find new drivers. I currently have a Alienware x51.

Could you please help me find a solution to help restore my network connections

Thanks.

Hi,

Right click the WiFi bars on your start bar (bottom right on desktop) and click on Troubleshoot problems. Let me know what it tells you.

Hi,

  1. What is the status of NIC in device manager, have you tried to manually install the latest driver for network adaoter from the manuffacture website?
  2. Temporarily turn off any third party anti-virus software.
  3. Run command: ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew

You can refer to this blog

If doesn't help, then run troubleshooter, and paste the diag report here

Darren1999,

If you havent already, youll want to try the Windows Network Diagnostic wizard.

An easy way to check these settings is to press your Windows key and X simultaneously.  This will bring up a menu that contains many administrative tools.  Youll want to click on Network Connections.  This will bring up a window that contains your connection. Right-click on that connection and click on Diagnose.  The wizard will start and should be able to fix any issues it encounters.

Even though you mentioned that you tried some commands from the Command Prompt, there are a few you might have missed such as:

-          ipconfig/release

-          ipconfig/renew

-          ipconfig/flushdns

-          netsh winsock reset

If that doesnt work, another thing you might try is checking your TCP/IP settings.  Most home users will find that their settings are for a dynamic address or DHCP.  It could be that your settings got changed and theyre set for a static address without the proper information filled in.  In order to check this, go back into the Network Connections window, right-click on your connection and select Properties.

Once youve opened the properties window, scroll down until you see Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and make sure its checked.  Now highlight that option and press the box underneath that says Properties.  Once youre in properties, make sure that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected, then click on Ok.
