Windows 8.1 - Limited connection
I have a new Lenovo Helix with Windows 8.1 installed. When it is connected to a particular network it comes connected as 'Limited'. The thing is that you will have connection to the Internet and the user can browse the internet.  The user will encounter problems when he has to open or sync something on apps which work on the cloud, like for example SkyDrive. It will say that the user does not have an internet connection. I do not know what is causing this error, I do not know if this can help but the first time the system was joined to the domain it was given a name of an old domain controller (which was active like 3 years ago), and we had that problem, so I changed the computer name  to another one and still there was the same problem. Also now in the event viewer the following error is showing, but as I said I do not know if this is related: A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the computer that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state.

Do you have any ideas of what could be the problem?
Thanks and Regards,
Adrian

Hi,

How did you change the computer name, did you change only the domain of this computer?

First, lets run the network troubleshooter to see if the issue can be fixed.

Under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories -> Network Adapter

Also, please try this command to see whats going on:

Ipconfig /release

Ipconfig /renew

Did you use 2 NICs on your current computer?

If so, Do NOT enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP This can cause the name of the pc to appear on the network more than once and an error will occur (multiple NetBT Event ID 4319 Errors stating A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network)

To disable WINS/NetBT name resolution:

1. Open Network Connections.

2. Right click the network adapter, click Properties.

3. In the list of components, click Internet Protocol (TCP/Ipv4), and then click Properties.

4. Click Advanced.

5. Click the WINS tab.

6. Click Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

If the issue still persists, please post back the results after you run this command: nbtstat n. Make sure you run it as admin.
