Is it just Win 7 or Win7 SP1, They symptoms that you havementioned seems to be pointing to something related to the OS. if it is not W7 SP1 then apply that first

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit on a Dell Latitude E6410 with an Intel Centrino N-6300 wireless adapter. At home I am connecting to the internet using a Motorolla Netopia 3000 DSL modem/wireless router. This problem has been going on for awhile, so I don't have a great idea of what triggered it. Currently, I am able to connect to a network with both DNS and the IP address automatically assigned, but not to the internet. However, if I manually enter the IP address and DNS server of my router, it runs fine. This issue occurs/solution occurs elsewhere, too, such as on a Dlink router (don't remember the exact model) and cable internet at my friend's house. I've browsed the forums, and based on other's advice I've uninstalled Bonjour, but that did not make any difference. Drivers are fully updated, windows is fully updated, but still I can't get it work. I am currently running Avast anti-virus, however even when the program was uninstalled the connection did not work properly. The IT guy who I work with took a look at the machine, and was able to get the wireless card to work perfectly while running Ubuntu, so it isn't a hardware issue. I'm at my wits end trying to get this to work, and would love any feedback or ideas anyone has.

Hi, When getting the DNS and IP address automatically, can you ping the gateway? Can you ping the website? Does the issue occur whatever using wireless or wired connection? What is the error message received when accessing the Internet? Please understand the adapter works differently under Ubuntu and Windows. I suggest re-installing the network adapter driver from the manufacture's site manually although the driver is update. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=W764&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=LAT_E6410&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Router also could be the cause. Just bypass the router for testing. If the issue disappears, go to update router's firmware. If the issue persists, did you enable the IEEE 802.1x authentication? If so, go to disable it. Just refer to the following article and select the disable option. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Enable-802-1X-authentication If the issue persists, please use ipconfig /all command and paste the result here. In the end, installing SP 1 after installing the hotfix made it work. I don't know if it was just SP1 or the combination of the hotfix and SP1. In case anyone else has a similar problem, I'll provide some of the answers to Niki's questions below: ~I could ping the gateway (Start->cmd (in search programs and files) and type "ping [website or IP address]") and websites when assigning the DNS and IP manually. When the correct IP/DNS were entered, the connection worked perfectly ~ The ethernet card was functioning properly ~All drivers were up to date ~IEE 802.1x was not enabled on my network Thanks for all the help!
